Trauma Surgery Acting Internship

Director: Reginald Alouidor, MD

Location: Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA

Goals

This elective will provide the broadest possible exposure to comprehensive trauma care. Baystate Medical Center is the Level 1 Trauma Center for Western Massachusetts and sees over 2000 trauma patients of all ages annually.

Objectives

The student will...

  • engage in active participation with the Trauma Team in resuscitations and surgery of the trauma victim.
  • gain exposure to emergency general surgery, wound care, and hyperbaric medicine.
  • learn wound closure techniques.
  • attend daily rounds in the ICU and floor care of the trauma patient along with weekly Trauma Clinics.
