Goals
This elective provides exposure to the full range of surgical oncology, from outpatient diagnostic evaluation and staging, long-term follow-up, and inpatient primary surgical treatment and palliative measures. Emphasis will be place on the principles of staging, surgical resection, multimodality care, and clinical research.
Objectives
The student will...
- identify and appreciate the principles of surgical oncology.
- learn the importance of tumor staging in the assessment and treatment of cancer patients.
- learn the fundamentals of multidisciplinary patient care incorporating surgery, medical oncology, and radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer.
