This elective provides a greater understanding of how sick children present and are managed in an intensive care setting.
Objectives
The student will...
- Function as a junior intern with the ICU team in the care and management of children in the ICU.
- Understand the pathophysiologic basis underlying cardiorespiratory and neurologic failure in critically ill children.
- Learn how to transfer this knowledge to the care of critically ill children.
- Learn to manage common Pediatric ICU problems such as asthma, bronchiolitis, DKA, and trauma.
