Infectious Diseases Elective

Goals

This elective provides a broad exposure to the many types of infectious disease problems.

Objectives

The student will be able to...

  • perform the initial interview and examination of a patient.
  • formulate impressions and diagnostic/therapeutic strategies to present to an attending for discussion and implementation.
  • understand basic diagnosis and treatment of common infectious diseases.
  • understand the mechanisms of action and indications for commonly used antimicrobials.
  • understand basic pathogenesis and pathophysiology of common infectious diseases.
