PS-416 Child Psychiatry Elective

Goals
Working with the Elective Director, the student will develop specific objectives based upon their career interests and the resources available at Baystate Medical Center. This may include participating in clinical care as well as the research interests of the faculty. Areas of faculty interests currently include psychiatric issues in pediatric primary care (including access to psychiatric care, psychiatric consultation to inpatient and outpatient pediatric providers, research into pediatric and adolescent depression, and psychiatric aspects of childhood diseases including cancer, diabetes, and HIV.
Objectives
The student will...
- function as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
- develop and demonstrate a basic understanding of how to do an initial assessment of an acutely ill child and/or adolescent including being able to interview the child, family, and establish contact and collaboration with providers.
- develop and execute a treatment plan based on diagnostic formulations and patient and family needs.
- develop and execute a discharge plan (partial hospital or consult service) or referral plan for additional services, testing, or continuity of care.
