How To Apply to BERST Academy

BERST Academy is open to any member of the Baystate community who is in an education role or involved in education activities.

Once you are a BERST member there is no need to reapply, nor do you graduate. We emphasize continuing to grow as a community.

Membership Requirements

Teacher Track

  • Demonstrated interest in improving as an educator
  • Demonstrated interest in improving the educational experience of your learners
  • Record of high-quality teaching evaluations (if applicable)

Leader Track

  • Leadership position in education (e.g., committee or program chair, clerkship or program director, assistant program director, course director) locally or nationally
    Demonstrated interest in holding a leadership position in education in the future
  • Led the development and/or implementation of an educational innovation
  • Record of formal professional development in education (e.g., Master’s program, Harvard Macy program, etc.)

Annual Member Participation Requirements

Each year all members must:

  • Attend BERST Base Camp and Summer Education Conference (first year of membership only)
  • Attend at least 40% of monthly BERST Bites
  • Attend at least 1 BERST Professional Development opportunity (aside from BERST Bites)
  • Participate in the Peer Observation Program (POP) at least 4 times per year, either as an observer or as the teacher being observed
  • Receive evaluation from learners on teaching (if applicable)
