Baystate Health invites unbiased accrediting organizations to tell us how we compare to other health care facilities and institutions nationwide. Our many awards, accreditation, and high rankings affirm that we meet the highest quality and safety standards for hospitals and rank among the top hospitals in the United States. Here are some recent examples:
U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report ranked Baystate Medical Center (BMC) third among Massachusetts hospitals. BMC achieved the highest rating possible in nine procedures or conditions.
Truven® Health Analytics
BMC was once again named among Truven® Health Analytics “Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals” based upon measures of quality, safety and experience.
Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) and Baystate Noble Hospital (BNH) received an “A,” and BMC received a “B” for Patient Safety by the Leapfrog Group.
Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence
BMC retains its Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a distinction that places the hospital’s nursing staff among the finest in the nation.
As a Magnet-certified hospital, BMC is part of a select group of 378 healthcare organizations out of nearly 6,000 in the United States. It is one of only nine such hospitals in Massachusetts and 22 in New England. Nationally, only about 7% of all health care organizations are recognized by Magnet, and only 26% of all Magnet organizations have received three consecutive designations.
American Hospital Association Most Wired Hospitals
For the sixth consecutive year, Baystate Health has earned a Most Wired designation from the American Hospital Association Health Forum, which recognizes IT use and adoption in hospitals and health systems nationwide. The award honors Baystate’s IT leadership and advancements in infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration. It also recognizes Baystate’s efforts to engage with patients through telemedicine, secure messaging, and its patient portal. The Most Wired designation places Baystate among the top health systems in the country.
TechSpring Innovation Honor
Associated Industries of Massachusetts recognized TechSpring, the Baystate Health Innovation Center, with its Next Century Award for Innovation.
iVantage Health Analytics Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital
Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) was included in iVantage Health Analytics’ and the Chartis Center for Rural Health’s inaugural list of the top 100 rural and community hospitals in the country. The iVantage index measures hospitals in eight categories: inpatient share ranking, outpatient share ranking, cost, charge, quality, outcomes, patient perspectives, and financial stability.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Organ Donation Achievement
BMC and BFMC are among a select group of hospitals and transplant centers nationwide recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for reaching Platinum level of achievement by conducting activities that promoted enrollment in state organ donor registries. Only three hospitals in Massachusetts received the platinum recognition.
Cleverley & Associates Community Value Index – Five-Star® Hospital
BMC, BFMC, Baystate Wing Hospital (BWH), and Baystate Noble Hospital (BNH) were all recognized as being in the top 20% of hospitals based on an assessment of their performance in financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, pricing, and quality of care.
Get With The Guidelines® Quality Achievement Awards
For stroke care, Baystate Franklin Medical Center received the Get With the Guidelines Gold-Plus and Honor Roll Elite Plus awards, and Baystate Wing Hospital received the Get With the Guidelines Gold-Plus Award from the American Heart Association.
National Recognition for Health New England
For 2017, Health New England (HNE) was the top performing health plan in an independent audit of benefits management by the Group Insurance Commission. HNE’s Commercial and Medicare product lines achieved 4.5 Stars (out of five stars) in NCQA's Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2017-2018, and its Medicaid product line achieved 4.0 Stars (out of five stars) in NCQA's Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2017-2018.
