Our many awards, accreditation, and high rankings affirm that we meet the highest quality and safety standards for hospitals and rank among the top hospitals in the United States. America's 100 Best Hospitals - Healthgrades

 Healthgrades America’s Best Hospitals recognizes organizations based on clinical quality outcomes. As one of the 100 Best in 2015, Baystate Medical Center was ranked in the top two percent of hospitals in the nation for exhibiting clinical excellence for at least three consecutive years.

Truven® Healthcare Analytics

Baystate Medical Center (BMC) has a proud tradition of being recognized for its outstanding quality, patient safety and satisfaction, and innovative practices, and is honored to have been named a 2015 Truven® Healthcare Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters®) Top 100 Health System in the US. This distinction recognizes outstanding clinical performance and quality outcomes at Baystate Health.

In addition, Baystate Medical Center is honored to be named a Truven® Healthcare Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital in the US.

The Joint Commission

Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Baystate Mary Lane Hospital & Baystate Wing Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ as a Top Performer for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hospitals.

U.S. News and World Report

Baystate Medical Center has been ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals for 2015-16 by U.S. News & World Report. The annual U.S. News top hospitals rankings, now in their 25th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

Baystate Medical Center was ranked nationally for its care in the areas of diabetes, endocrinology, and ear, nose, and throat. Baystate is considered high-performing by U.S. News in other areas of medical specialty including: cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics, nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pulmonology.

For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Baystate Children’s Hospital among the top programs in the nation in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes.

Human Right Group's Healthcare Equality Index Top Performer

 For the fourth consecutive year, Baystate Health was recognized for health care policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people focused on four key policy areas: patient non-discrimination, visitation, cultural competency training, and employment non-discrimination.

Leapfrog Group "A" for Safety

Baystate Medical Center & Baystate Franklin Medical Center received "A" grades from The Leapfrog Group on the 2015 Hospital Safety Score, which grades hospitals on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical error.

AHA/ASA Stroke Honor Roll
Stroke Gold Plus 2014 Get With The Guidelines Award

For the third year in a row, Baystate Franklin Medical Center was honored with an award from the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association for ensuring that stroke patients consistently receive treatment according to the nationally accepted guidelines. The hospital was named to the Target: Stroke Honor Roll.

Magnet Recognition

In 2015 Baystate Medical Center achieved Magnet hospital designation for nursing excellence for the third year in a row. Only three percent of hospitals have achieved Magnet three times. Surveyors noted the hospital exemplary in several areas including the level of nurses’ clinical autonomy and for meeting national clinical benchmarks. Baystate Medical Center was originally designated a Magnet hospital in 2005 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). 

Gold-Level American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Beacon Award for Excellence

Baystate Medical Center’s Heart & Vascular Critical Care and Progressive Care Unit achieved a GOLD-level American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award for Excellence. The award is based on sustained unit performance and patient outcomes that exceed national benchmarks. They were one of only three units to earn Gold in the state.

Partnership for Patients Award - Premier

Baystate Franklin Medical Center received the Partnership for Patients Award from Premier for outstanding outcomes with six distinct patient safety initiatives.

Donate Life Bronze Recognition Award for Organ Donation

In 2014, Baystate Franklin Medical Center was recognized for its work in supporting organ donation with a Bronze Recognition Award from the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign, US Department of Health and Human Services, and with two awards from Donate Life – one for Highest Tissue Conversion Rate and another for 100% referral of appropriate cases for three consecutive years.

Health New England - NCQA Measuring quality Improving health care.

Health New England (HNE) is the highest ranked Medicare Advantage HMO/POS Plan in Massachusetts based on the 2014-2015 NCQA rankings. In NCQA’s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014–2015, HNE ranked 16th out of 408 Medicare health plans across the country.

Professional Research Consultants, Inc. 5-star Award

In 2015, Baystate Health won a total of 37 National Patient Experience Awards with 34 awards being Five-Star Awards for quality care. In 2014, Baystate Mary Lane Hospital received the HCAHPS Discharge Information dimension discharges award for calendar year 2013 discharges.

Hospitals and Health Networks Most Wired Hospitals

For the fifth consecutive year, Baystate Health has earned a Most Wired designation from the American Hospital Association and Hospitals & Health Networks. The award honors Baystate’s IT leadership and advancements in infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration. The Most Wired designation places Baystate among the top health systems in the country and among only five organizations selected in Massachusetts.

Cleverley + Associates

In 2014, Baystate Medical Center was recognized for the value it provides to its community by examining performance areas of financial viability and plant reinvestment, cost structure, charge structure, and quality performance.

SafeCare Group

In 2014, Baystate Wing Hospital and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital have been named one of the nation’s "100 SafeCare Hospitals" by the SafeCare Group. SafeCare Group honors these hospitals based on the Triple Aims of Excellence in healthcare – quality, patient safety, and efficiency of care. The process was comprehensive, with analysis of data from over 4,500 hospitals throughout the United States in more than 30 measures.

Massachusetts Department of Public Health - Breastfeeding Achievement Award

The Birthplace at Baystate Franklin Medical Center has received the 2014 Breastfeeding Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).

Consumer Reports Top 15 Heart Surgery Program

In 2014, Baystate Medical Center was one of only two hospitals in the state, and one of only 15 in the country, to earn a top score from Consumer Reports in both heart bypass and aortic valve replacement surgery.
