Preadmission Evaluation

Preadmission evaluation is available to all patients over age 14 who are scheduled for day stay or inpatient surgery at Baystate Medical Center. Your preadmission evaluation usually occurs 7-10 days before surgery and will help prepare you and your family for your experience before, during and after your surgical procedure.

Your preadmission evaluation is determined by the surgical procedure you are having and your health history.  It will include an in-person or telephone assessment, conducted by a registered nurse, and lab tests.  If anesthesia is necessary, a nurse practitioner from the Department of Anesthesia will contact you to determine the most appropriate type of anesthesia for you.
