International Field Work in Argentina

We have been working in Argentina since 2004 in partnership with the Sociedad Argentina de Emergencias (la SAE), and several hospitals based in Buenos Aires.  In particular, we have partnered with Hospital Italiano to author a Spanish language ultrasound curriculum, and have initiated several ongoing research efforts.

We also work with staff at Hospital Cosme Argerich, a major public trauma center, to advance public health initiatives and improve trauma care.

Several Argentine physicians have come to our hospitals to participate in the exchange program, fostering professional and personal friendships that have proven durable and useful.

Program Achievements

  • Establishment of a the largest Spanish language Emergency Medicine conference is the Americas- the Inter-American Emergency Medicine conference which is now in its eighth year
  • Establishment of the first Spanish language ultrasound training course in Argentina.  This course is currently staffed by Argentines and is a self-sustaining entity
  • A robust exchange program with both public and private hospitals in Buenos Aires
  • On-going research projects in sepsis care and other areas of critical care
