Quality Measurement and Improvement

The Hospital Quality Data Reporting Programs (now for both inpatient and outpatient) are mandatory parts of hospital quality reporting and accreditation.  The programs were implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) with a primary purpose to promote high quality care and clinical performance for patients receiving services in all settings.  Under these programs, hospitals report data for selected inpatient and outpatient quality areas using well-tested, standardized measures of care.  Participating facilities agree that they will meet administrative and data collection, submission, and validation requirements, including posting the results on CMS’s
