Our many awards, accreditation's, and high rankings affirm that we meet the highest quality and safety standards for hospitals and rank among the top hospitals in the United States. Truven® Healthcare Analytics
Baystate Medical Center (BMC) has a proud tradition of being recognized for its outstanding quality, patient safety and satisfaction, and innovative practices, and is honored to have been named a 2012 Truven® Healthcare Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters®) Top 15 Health System in the US. This distinction recognizes outstanding clinical performance and quality outcomes at Baystate Health.
Also, Baystate Medical Center is proud to once again be named a Truven® Healthcare Analytics Top 100 Hospital, Major Teaching Hospital in the US. Baystate Medical Center has received this designation four times.
Baystate Medical Center is honored to be named a Truven® Healthcare Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital in the US.
The Joint Commission
Baystate Franklin Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hospitals. The accreditation award recognizes BFMC’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.
Baystate Mary Lane Hospital was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission for attaining and sustaining excellence on accountability measure performance. One of only 405 U.S. hospitals and critical access hospitals in the nation to earn this distinction, BMLH was recognized by The Joint Commission for pneumonia and surgical care.
U.S. News and World Report
Baystate Medical Center has been ranked as one of the Best Regional Hospitals for 2013-14 by U.S. News & World Report. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
Baystate Medical Center also ranked nationally in 3 specialties: Endocrinology and the care of Diabetes; Ear, Nose & Throat; and Pulmonology.
Baystate Medical Center ranked as “high-performing” in 9 medical specialties, including Cancer; Cardiology & Heart Surgery; Gastroenterology and related surgery; Geriatrics; Gynecology; Nephrology; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; and Urology.
Baystate Children’s Hospital has been ranked as one of the Best Children’s Hospitals for 2013-14 for Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology by U.S. News & World Report.
Stroke Collaborative Reaching for Excellence (SCORE) is a quality improvement collaborative that supports Primary Stroke Service designated hospitals in Massachusetts. The Collaborative, a partnership of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Registry, and the American Stroke Association, assists designated hospitals in monitoring and improving the quality of stroke care for acute, inpatient and secondary prevention performance measures.
In 2013, Baystate Franklin Medical Center won the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus Award.
In 2013, Baystate Mary Lane Hospital received the Get with the Guidelines Silver Plus Award from the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association.
In 2012, Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Franklin Medical Center each won the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus Award.
National Committee for Quality Assurance
In 2011, several Baystate Medical Practices received Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition, the highest attainable recognition, by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This recognition was received based on redesigned work-flow at medical practices that emphasizes a team-based approach to care, with new processes focusing on coordination of care, quality, safety, and preventative care, supported by the use of health information technology tools such as electronic health record, electronic prescribing, and an electronic patient registry.
Baystate Medical Center was named a 2012 Top Leapfrog Hospital for the 6th time, putting it in the Top Hospitals Nationally for Patient Safety and Quality.
Baystate Medical Center's high quality nursing care earned the re-designation of Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence - one of 170 in the nation and only five in Massachusetts.
The same excellence in our critical care nursing units makes Baystate Medical Center the only hospital in the USA to have won five consecutive Beacon Awards for Critical Care Excellence, 2004-2014.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Blue Distinction® is a designation awarded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality healthcare. Baystate Medical Center has been designated as a Blue Distinction® Center for Excellence in Bariatric Surgery, Cardiac Care, and Knee and Hip Replacement.
Professional Research Consultants, Inc.
In 2013, Baystate Health won 14 National Patient Experience Awards from Professional Research Consultants, with 12 Five-Star Awards for quality of care.
IMS Best Integrated Health Networks
Focusing on innovative practices to deliver outstanding, comprehensive, and integrated healthcare has been a priority, and Baystate Health is honored to be ranked among the 100 Best Integrated Health Networks in the United States in 2012 by IMS (formerly SDI), a national research company for the past 15 years. Baystate was the 4th on the 2012 IMS Top 100 IHNs Top 10 Northeast list.
Hospitals and Health Networks Most Wired Hospitals
In 2013, Baystate Health once again was recognized as a Most Wired Hospital by the American Medical Association for leading the way in automating and integrating clinical, patient safety, and administrative functions to improve the quality of care given to patients.
Baystate Health was named a Premier QUEST Top Performer in 2011 for outstanding performance in cost, quality, satisfaction, evidence-based care delivery, and harm prevention.
Baystate Medical Center (BMC) leads "the industry by using best practices and evidence-based decision-making to develop more efficient ways to deliver excellent patient care" according to Premier, Inc. In 2011, Baystate Medical Center received an honorable mention by Premier Healthcare Alliance for the QUEST Award for High Value Healthcare. BMC was in the top 25th percent for effectiveness, mortality and efficiency of hospital care.
BMC was named a Premier Top Performer in 2009 and 2010 in the Surgical Care Improvement Project and in Total Joint Replacement care.
Cleverley + Associates
Baystate Medical Center once again has been recognized by Cleverley + Associates' State of the Hospital Industry as one of the Top 100 Community Value Hospitals. The Community Value Index® (CVI) is a proprietary index created to offer a measure of the value that a hospital provides to its community.
Baystate Medical Center has also again been recognized by Cleverley + Associates as a Community Value Five-Star® Hospital. Five-Star Hospitals are those that achieve CVI scores in the top 20 percent of all hospitals in the study.
Institute for Healthcare Improvement
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement designated Baystate Medical Center as a Mentor Hospital because of its superior performance and willingness to share innovations and practical ideas, coaching other hospitals around the nation on the "Improvement Map".
