Geriatrics, Palliative Care and Post-Acute Medicine

Our experienced staff at the Geriatrics Primary Care program provide comprehensive and compassionate primary care to adults over the age of 65.  We are available to assist patients who may have multiple and complex medical conditions, including:

  • memory loss
  • fall risk
  • osteoporosis
  • urinary incontinence

The Division of Geriatrics, Palliative Care and Post-Acute Medicine has extensive clinical care and educational activities and is the home of a growing clinical research endeavor. The Division is the largest in the Department of Medicine, with 43 physicians employed by the Baystate Medical Education and Research Foundation and dozens of physicians practicing in community-based practice. Our education program includes a fellowship in geriatric medicine.


The geriatric program provides care throughout Western MA. and is responsible for nearly 100,000 patient visits annually. Physicians from the three health centers and our hospital medicine programs also provide inpatient care for their hospitalized patients. The Division's physicians are responsible for nearly 40,000 inpatient visits annually.
