Special Care for Kids
Children who need surgery find our environment particularly calming and comfortable. We make every effort to accommodate the special needs of children. To put children at ease and make them feel at home, we encourage parents to:
- Visit Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center for a tour the day before surgery.
- Bring a favorite toy or blanket for the child.
- Talk with the child ahead of time about the surgery to relieve any uneasiness the child may have about the surgery.
Parents may accompany their child to the operating room and leave after the child is asleep. They may rejoin their child as soon as it is appropriate. We insist that one parent stay at the Center during the surgery and recommend that one adult drives and the other cares for the child on the way home. We request that all other children in the family remain at home.
Our orthopedic surgeons, all of whom practice at New England Orthopedic Surgeons, offer a comprehensive range of outpatient surgeries in most areas, including:
- Sports Injuries
- Hand and Wrist
- Ankle and Foot
Our state-of-the-art, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia aids in rapid anesthesia recovery and minimizes nausea after surgery.
The surgery center will be used exclusively by New England Orthopedic Surgeons (NEOS) for outpatient orthopedic surgery appropriate for this setting. We are located in our new building at 50 Wason Avenue, Springfield, MA.
