Our programs offer an exciting variety of classes to healthcare professionals, Baystate employees, and our community. With everyone's busy schedule, we have made class times and days very flexible. Please learn CPR and First Aid to help increase our chain of survival.

BLS Healthcare Provider Instructor Course

 

Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

This Basic Life Support (BLS) class is designed for all licensed health care professionals (HCP). Class time will cover:

  • Risk factors
  • Warning signs for heart attack and stroke
  • Adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Foreign body obstruction
  • Use of barrier devices
  • Automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • 911 protocol

 

Certification Course:
If you have never taken this CPR class before, or if you have an expired card. (There is no grace period for expired cards).

The length of each class is five hours. Please register online or call Baystate Health Link at 413-794-2255 or 1-800-377-HEALTH to register.

The cost is $60 for a certification class.

 

Re-certification
Only
if you have a current HCP CPR card. Please bring your current card for verification. The length for this class is 3.5 hours from either 8:30 am to 12:00pm, or 6:00 to 9:30 pm. Please register online or call Baystate Healthlink at 413-794-2255 or 1-800-377-HEALTH to register and learn the times for each date.

The cost is $50 for Re-certification class - manual is not included.  Manual $11.00 if desired.

This class is also a pre-requisite for all persons who plan to become BLS instructors.

 

Online
If you have a current BLS card, this Healthcare Provider course contains a series of online modules that cover the required adult, child and infant CPR sequences: 12 checkpoints that must be completed, 20 review sections and 19 videos that are optional.

To complete part 1 go to www.onlineaha.org

  • Click on Healthcare
  • Click on BLS for Healthcare Provider Online Part 1
  • Then click on Register to enter your specific data. 

After part 1 is completed, call Baystate Healthlink at 413-794-2255 to schedule the half hour skills only portion. Non-employee fee for the skills-only portion is $30.00. Skills-only days have been set aside each month. You will be expected to be proficient in your skills - which means the instructor will not be able to help, coach, or prompt during testing.  Anyone who is not proficient will be asked to reschedule for a full CPR class.

 

Baystate Health Employees - activate your assigned "KEY" or access number which will be sent to you from your manager.

Non-Employees - click on Purchase a Key ($17.50). Make sure to print your competed certificate and bring it with you for your Skills-Only session.

 Heartsaver AED CPR

This course will teach you the Chain of Survival, Basic life CPR, Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction, Importance of 911 with early defibrillation. Also, you will learn how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) on an adult or child.

This course was designed for all non-licensed persons that require a credentialed card. If you need CPR as a requirement for your employment, please check with your employer to make sure this is the course for you. Your employer may want you to take the Healthcare Provider course.

Schedule
The length of the course is usually 3 hours for adult/child with the AED component and 1 hour for infant component.

Cost: $50.00 which includes the book.

 Infant & Child/Adult CPR

Monthly course instruction on CPR techniques for infants and children also include:

  • Injury prevention
  • Car seat safety
  • Home safety

Classes take place on Saturdays or evenings

Cost: $35.00.

 Teen CPR

This is the perfect class for teens ages 11-14 to learn CPR for the first time. We also welcome Scouts, Babysitters, Members of other youth organizations.

Teens will learn:

  • Risk factors for heart disease
  • Warning signs for heart attack and stroke
  • Adult CPR 911 protocol
  • How to use an AED

This class will also include child and baby CPR and first aid for choking with a strong emphasis on injury prevention.

Time: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Lunch and snacks are included.

Cost: $20.00, including lunch and snacks.

 CPR For Friends and Family

This course targets all lay rescuers, such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death. 

The course will teach you the Chain of Survival, basic life CPR, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Plus you will learn facts about the AED (automated external defibrillator), the device that shocks the heart.

This course can also include CPR for infants and children with a great emphasis on injury prevention.

The length of the adult/child component is usually about 2 hours and the length for the infant is about one hour.

This is non-credential course. You will receive a participation card.

Cost: $20.00 per person.  FREE class on February 18th, 2010 - from 3-5pm or 6-8pm.

 First Aid

Adult Heartsaver
This new American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid course is a perfect class for anyone to learn the simple procedures for treating basic emergencies, especially if you are the first upon the scene.

First Aid skills include: assessment, universal precautions, control of bleeding, and more.

Cost: $35.00

Pediatric First Aid
American Heart Association Pediatric First Aid is geared toward parents and daycare providers with hands on exercises in bleeding, splinting, and assessment.

When: Monthly classes take place on Saturdays or on weekday evenings.

Cost: $35.00

Registration: To register for a class, please call Baystate Health Link at 413-794-2255 or you can register online Child and Infant First Aid class registration.

Groups: If you have a group of six or more and would like AHA pediatric first aid taught at a different time, please call us directly at 413-322-4246. We will try to schedule something for you.

 

 BLS Healthcare Provider Instructor Course

The American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) course is usually offered twice each year at Baystate Health Education Center at 361 Whitney Ave, Holyoke, MA. This BLS course is from 9am-3pm on both days. 

Next class dates: TBA after new guidelines are released.

Prerequisites: 

  • A current Healthcare Provider card
  • A current First Aid certification, or you must be an RN, LPN, EMT, or athletic trainer
  • Prior to class, the CORE instructor course must be completed and certificate presented to CPR coordinator. 

Cost: $250.00 which includes the manual.
